What are the signs that it’s time to repair your asphalt driveway or parking lot? There are a few. Check out our list of how to tell if your asphalt needs to be repaired.
Potholes are a dead giveaway. They’re caused when water freezes under the asphalt, creating upwards pressure. When the ice melts, the asphalt caves in, leaving holes in your driveway or parking lot. They can cause accidents, inconveniences, and damage to vehicles. They should be repaired immediately.
Newly poured asphalt is a dark black in colour. Over time UV rays, and exposure will cause that colour to fade. As it fades, it loses strength and becomes more prone to cracks and holes. When this happens, it’s time to repair.
A cracking asphalt parking lot or driveway is a sign of degradation. Although they might seem insignificant at first, left unattended, cracks in asphalt will cause trouble if they’re not repaired as soon as possible.
Another sign of degrading asphalt is broken and crumbling edges. This damage will cause debris in the street, or on your lawn. Having that fixed as soon as possible will help avoid trouble for you.
