We’ve all seen paving work being done, whether in traffic waiting for the flag person to let us through, or in parking lots and driveways in our towns and neighborhoods. There are a lot of different pieces of equipment that go into making sure these jobs are done safely and efficiently. In this ongoing series, we’ll be talking to you about the different types of equipment that we use here at Von Paving. This month; The Milling Machine
Pavement milling is the process of removing all, or some, asphalt from a street, parking lot, or highway. It can remove anywhere from just enough to even out the road, or down to the gravel underneath to allow for a full replacement.
A milling machine has a rotating drum under its chassis that spins usually counter to the direction of its wheels. The drum is covered with teeth laid out to both break up the asphalt, and move it towards the center to be loaded onto a conveyor belt and into a dump truck driving again.
Here at Von Paving, our milling machines help us be ready for any asphalt job, big or small. Do you have questions? Let us know! We’d love to hear from you.
